I am back in Seattle after a week in Philly that went by way too fast! Since I didn't have a chance to post my happenings before Christmas, I am going to do it now...
I made a birthday dinner for Leslie and family on December 21. They were a lot of fun and super sweet - they even gave me presents! One gift was a great bottle from Kestrel vineyards that they brought back from a recent trip to Yakima, which they also drank with their dinner. Also, Leslie made some fantastic Swedish Christmas cookies - lots of different kinds with flavors of date, almond, clove and cocoa. Their dinner menu was:
- Stuffed Calamari with meyer lemon, hominy bread crumbs, caper, tomato, almond
- Winter Greens Salad with shaved celeriac and fig vinegar
- Pian Pianino Gnocchi with braised duck and red wine
- Seared Romanesco
- Roasted Pears with Cinnamon Ice Cream

My New Favorite Way to Wrap Bottles!
I needed to wrap this bottle for a friend and I realized I didn't have any wrapping paper - but I did have lots of ribbon! I wrapped all my "bottle gifts" this way this year - its actually kind of fun to experiment with zig-zagging the ribbon to create a sense of mystery about the label. This bottle is a fig vinegar from Acetorium, a German, artisan vinegar producer (I love it!).

Early Christmas Dinner
Since Justin and I were spending our Christmases on different coasts, we had our Christmas on Tuesday night. We splurged a little with the menu - but it was worth it! The only thing missing was a little shaved truffle on the steak.... and maybe some caviar for an hors d'ouvre.....(I'll stop...) We ate:
Lobster with Avocado, Meyer Lemon and Arugula
Rib Eye topped with melted Breschianella cheese
Radicchio salad with Balsamico
We drank two botttles from Produtorri - a Langhe Nebbiolo, and a Barabaresco - who cares if it wasn't the perfect match for lobster - it was good.
